Meet our Student Support Coordinator

Carlos A. Kelly

Hello, I am Mr. Kelly.  I started at Topeka High as the JAG-K instructor in 2017 and recently moved to the Student Support Coordinator position for SparkWheel in 2023.  I have been in many roles at Topeka High and one was as an assistant football coach from 2016 to 2019.  We won 3 centennial league titles and a 6A regional title.  I also served as the men's freshman basketball coach in 2019 and the head football coach from 2020 to 2023.

I am thankful to have been part of the staff at Topeka High School while my daughter Mia Kelly  (22 years) attended and graduated from THS. Mia was the center fielder for the 2021 Women's 6A State Softball Championship team and finished the season on the 6A first-team All-State team. She went on to play college softball and is finishing up her bachelor's degree in Radiology at Washburn University. In 2024, Mia signed on to be the JV softball coach for THS.

I have two sons, Kortez Kelly (25 years) is a boom operator for the Kansas Air National Guard and has the rank of Technical Sargent.  My oldest son Tyler Kelly (32 years) lives and works here in Topeka, KS, and has two boys of his own Xavier & Christian Kelly.  Both of my sons graduated high school from Washburn Rural.

I have truly enjoyed my time as an SSC, helping students and their families navigate real-life situations. We provide essential needs to students, such as clothing, school supplies, hygiene products, food, and bus passes. I have been a big part of helping students figure out their future preparations for life after high school. Assisting students with enrichment activities, community volunteering, individual support, strong work ethic and a willingness to help others and mentoring have all been my strengths.

Kindness Pantry

The THS Kindness Pantry is an option for students and staff to find essential needs. We are in room 221C, located in the back hallway on the second floor. To create this space, we moved the clothing closet formerly located underneath the bleachers.  This allowed us to see what clothing was available and separate men's and women's clothing.  This also made it easier to display coats, hats, gloves, socks, underwear, shoes, dresses, jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sweaters, and many other items for individuals to find.

The Kindness Pantry is not just a place for clothing.  We have recently started providing canned goods and other shelf-stable food items for students and staff.  Hygiene products such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, body wash, lotion, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and feminine hygiene products are available.  We have school supplies for students and teachers if there is a need for their classroom.  Our goal is to fill in the gaps where students need help and for any member of Topeka High who has a need.
