Success Story

A need identified at the start of this school year on a site’s School Needs Assessment was improving the overall school atmosphere.

Our Student Support Coordinator (SSC), with the help of a teacher, started a social-emotional group for girls called “Girls Code." The group aimed to provide girls with a safe place for social and emotional learning while promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, reducing the number of behavior referrals amongst the female population, and increasing positive peer interactions.

The group met weekly with 25-30 girls from 6th through 8th grade. They covered conflict resolution, anger management, dealing with stress, bullying, self-advocacy, social awareness, life skills, and healthy relationships.

As a result of the group, fighting among the female school population has dropped drastically.
